Flower Show Rules
GENERAL RULES:
- Competitions are open to members only.
2. All entries must be created by the member and grown in the exhibitor’s own garden unless otherwise stated.
3. Exhibitors must furnish their own containers and ensure that each has an entry tag complete with their name.
4. The decision of the judge(s) shall be final. All complaints must be given to the show committee in writing.
Horticultural Rules:
- Exhibitors may exhibit a maximum of 3 entries in each class.
2. When number of blooms, sprays etc. are stated they must be adhered to otherwise the entry will be
disregarded. A bud showing colour is counted as a bloom.
3. Potted plants may be shown only once each year and must have been owned by the exhibitor for at least 3 months prior to showing.
Design and Crafts Rules
Design and craft entries must be made by the exhibitor. Purchased materials are allowed.
Photography Rules
- Participants may enter 1 photograph in each class.
- Photographs should be unmounted and at least 5 inches by 7 inches in size.
- Entries may be coloured or black and white.
- Photographs should not be altered or photoshopped.
- Please print your name and contact information on the back of each submission.
- Photos must have a horticultural topic.
Your Entry Tag
In an effort to help you with your entries, the following shows you how to fill in your entry tags for each plant you intend to showcase. These tags will be made available at the meetings before each show and, of course, at the shows on the day.
Fold at the perforation and insert under your plant.
Class & Section will be outlined on our website for every show.
Basically the name of the plant and the kind. Hats off to those who know the Latin names.
Your name and address. If you have pre-printed address labels, use them if you wish.
Choosing Horticultural Specimens from your Garden
From a distance, choose specimens with:
• Upright, strong stems
• Attractive foliage
• Clear, bright blooms
• Firm, crisp appearance
On closer inspection, choose specimens free of the following:
• Malformation of petals, leaves, stem
• Dirt, dust, spray residue, fallen pollen, blemishes • Mechanical damage – rips, holes in petals or foliage • Signs of fading, aging, wilting
• Insects, insect residue
Cutting Chosen Specimens:
• Cut plant material on an angle for best water uptake • Place specimens in a pail of lukewarm water immediately upon cutting
• Specimens should be placed in a cool, dark, draft-free area for a minimum of three hours before transporting to the show table
Point System for Entry Winners:
• 1st place – 5 points $65
• 2nd place – 3 points $50
• 3rd place – 2 points $35
• Honourable Mention – 1 point
